Swirling ideas and a new poll

In case you didn't notice, I just put up a new poll, asking What Are You Celebrating This Holiday Season?  Go on and vote!  And by the way, I *thought* I'd put a "nothing" option (I know I was planning to when I posted the poll...), but I forgot...  Just so you know, I *do* realize that some people don't celebrate anything at this time of year, it was just an oversight on my part, and now that people have voted, it won't let me change the poll...

In other news, I have tons of post ideas swirling around in my head, and if they continue to swirl around in there they will soon actually make it into blog posts!  Some of the things I'm planning on writing about are:

  • A bio post for each of my family members, because they're incredibly important to me and important in my day to day life, but I realize that I've very rarely talked about each of them as individuals!  That means a post for my mom, my dad, my sister Emi, the cat Henry, and the cat Minni...
  • As you may have noticed, I've also put a tidy "about me" link at the top right of my blog.  Following that, I want to have a link to a post talking about each of the labels I use most often, and that are listed in my blog description: unschooling, vegetarianism, animism, green anarchy, and being a hippie. ;-)
  • A post talking more about my personal spirituality, creating your own spiritual experiences, rituals, and ceremonies, and similar stuff like that...
  • Language usage, grammar, spelling, etc., how people look at people who use *good* versus *bad* grammar, how important (or not) I think all that is...
  • Swearing, *bad* language, my feelings on all that.
And I know that I'm forgetting at least a couple of the things I've been thinking about!  I'm rather tired and feeling a bit under the weather, so please excuse me for general poor communication. :-S Anyway, hopefully most of this will actually makes its way onto this blog soon. :-P

Idzie

Also, I know that a couple of people asked me to keep them posted on how the zine was going, so I'll give a litle update on that! About 30 people have said they will, or probably will, contribute to the zine, which is really exciting! I've actually received 5 different things from 3 different people, and am hoping to get more stuff soon... ;-) So that's going well.

In other random news, we, we being my mom, sis, and a friend, went to the Anti-Colonial Thanksgiving dinner a few nights ago, where we ate delicious vegan food made by a local collective, watched a very interesting, moving, and thought-provoking documentary film called Club Native, listened to a couple of interesting speakers (notably a woman from BC who had some very interesting things to say about the Olympics, organizing against the Olympics, and similar things), and just left with lots to think about. And talk about! From the moment we left, we were having fascinating conversations on Indigenous rights, colonialism, sexism, minority groups, counter cultures... I love the wonderful conversations mum, Emi, and I have! Emi also commented how very much she likes being around the more radical type counter cultures, including both unschoolers and anarchists (the type of people to attend an anti-colonial dinner are not exactly State loving types)... I agree that it just tends to be so much more of an open and friendly environment!

Oh, and as a funny side note, I commented that I was mildly surprised at how many people there were who were dressed "normally", and Emi looked at me as if I was crazy. "Idzie", she said, "you've forgotten what normal is. You think if someone doesn't have huge holes in their pants and political buttons attached to their blue hair, they're normal. And they're not." Well, excuse me. :-P Apparently most of the people at the dinner were dressed in "that flaky hippie style, wearing clothes from thrift stores that were 'normal' years ago, then adding a knit hat"... According to Em, that's a style that many unschoolers also favour. I love my sister. :-P And while we're talking about Emi-isms, she recently described anarchists as a whole as being "hippies without all the flowers", which sounds pretty accurate to me, actually. She says all of this with an air of slightly exasperated affection, which is not in the least insulting, and considers herself an anarchist (though she's not as loud about it as me), though she does not consider herself a hippie (she really isn't at all), just in case you were wondering. Yeah. I really love my sister.

And that little bit of rambling is all there is for now, folks.

Idzie

Several things of note...

The poll that has been open for what feels like forever has now ended! The results are as follows:

Vegetarian
11 (33%)
Vegan
5 (15%)
Small amount of meat
8 (24%)
Meat lover
9 (27%)

Erm, actually, I voted twice by accident (I figured it was OK to vote once, because really, I proofread my blog so that counts as being a reader of this blog, right?). It glitched and said I hadn't voted but after I voted again I was like 'wait a minute...?' Anyway, moving on.

In blogger buzz they talked about the iLike gadget, and since I already have it on Facebook and like it, I decided I'd add a playlist to my blog as well! So you can now listen to clips of my favorite songs if you so wish. :-)

Something else I should probably make my readers aware of is that I'm no longer vegan. I had a war with myself, trying to decide if I should wait out the entire month as I'd originally planned, or go back to being vegetarian after only two weeks since I'd decided I didn't want to stay vegan. Finally, the lure of cheese made up my mind! So I'm now back to being vegetarian, but I'm no longer drinking straight milk (even after adding a tiny bit of milk to my water and hot chocolate powder I felt sick), and no longer eating eggs. I am eating baked goods tht contain milk and/or eggs, and I'm also (as I may have mentioned earlier) eating CHEESE! I love cheese. :-)

I'm now off to a friends house. I don't think I've posted pictures in a while, so I'll try and get that done soon...

Peace,
Idzie
